Hi
Can anyone advise if I need to remove the engine mount to remove the high pressure fuel pump or can I get away without doing this.

Thanks in advance

You need to remove the alloy cross mount, or you can't get access to the plug in the timing case. It's only 5 bolts and 1 nut to get it off. You also need to support the weight of the engine from below.

Thanks for the reply chaps. I've bought the replacement O ring seal kit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Freeland...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Do you think it would be worth replacing the O ring in the pressure regulator while I've got the pump off? If so does anyone have a link to the correct one?

I changed the started motor recently, got fed up of having to hit it with a crow bar, so no problems removing that. I quite enjoy getting my hands dirty and I can get quite a few San Miguel for the £600 I was quoted at my local indie for replacing the pump with a recon unit...

Thanks for the link to the tool Arctic2, just ordered.

Any other pearls of wisdom on carrying out this job will be much appreciated.

The plan is to tackle this next weekend and although there are numerous threads on this I will update with my experience in the vain hope it may help someone else.

Cheers

Make sure you get the correct shape seals, as there are 2 types used and there's no way to tell which you need until you get at least 1 pump head off. Also replacing the seals doesn't guarantee it'll be leak free afterwards. If there's lots of rust under the pump heads, then it'll still leak unless the surfaces are re-faced.

Thanks Nodge68, the kit has both the round and the tear drop so I think I'm covered on that score.

I'll give it a go, can't make it any worse (famous last words)...

Only just getting round to doing this... To remove the engine mount is it ok to support the the engine with some timber under the sump or should I support it somewhere else?

Thanks

I used a trolley jack with some wood fitted to the top - that way I could fiddle the engine up a down a bit to refit the mount.

just watched a video on this and it showed him locking the engine.

No need to lock the engine to change the HP pump. The sprocket nut generally isn't so tight that it turns the engine, rather than release. If it is tight, then a tap on the end of the wrench handle will free it.
Make sure you have the special tool and know how to use it. ;)
I'm going to be rebuilding my HP pump soon as it's leaking. So I'll be doing the same thing myself, again.

Cheers. Yes got the special tool and new seals etc so just about to start.

That's it, all done and dusted, took me all day though. Knocking off cost of sprocket retainer and seals I've saved myself £595 although they were going to put a reconned pump on.

Took it out for a good thrash last night and put some cardboard underneath it when I got back home. Not a drop of diesel on it this morning.

Thanks a million to everyone for all your help and advice, it's great having people in ur corner that have done it all before...

I know there's loads of info on this fix on the forum but if I can help anyone out in more than happy to.

Big kudos to all out there who contribute

Excellent news from a fellow Wulfrunian maybe drop into one of our meets at the Four Ashes even though they are R40 but a few of us also have Freelander 1 or 2's
