Greetings.
This will be my first post although I thought I had been a member for about 7 years!
I live in Worcestershire, own a 110 300tdi defender and a freelander 1 1.8 53 plate pre facelift. I have owned 2 defenders a 90 and the current 110 and neither of them had anything more electric than a stereo!

Anyway I hope you can help because this is the issue:
Freelander 1 1.8 2003. Has coil pack.
Son put jump leads on wrong way round (flat from lockdown) came to get me because it wouldn't start.
Had a look, reversed the leads and nothing.
We had cooked the immobiliser.
Replaced immobiliser and ecu and 2 key chips (Tried two different full sets) and she starts BUT the cooling fan is on flat out as soon as you turn the key, even to AUX and stays on for about 4 mins when ignition is turned off.
I have read everything I can and tried numerous things to fix it. As far as I can see there are no fused cables, no blown fuses and the OBD2 reader reports the correct temp.
This is a non AC car, perhaps this is the issue? Put old ecu back in with new immobiliser and no fan but obviously she turns over but doesn't run for more than a second. Have pulled all the AC Independent fuses and it still happens.
I am at a loss.
Please, if anyone can help it would be fantastic.

I can't remember if a pre facelift 1.8 has a fan control module mounted to the rear of the radiator. If it does, then that's the place to start.
You'll also need to check everything electronic too, as reverse connections to the battery can do enormous amounts of damage to multiple electronic modules.

Thanks chaps, not that I can see.
Will have another look in a bit.
Haven't replaced the BCU as yet but not sure it has anything to do with the cooling fan.

If Andy says there's a fan ECU on the pre facelift 1.8, then it's very possible, his has AC, which could well add the fan ECU.

No, the CCU won't have anything to do with the fan, however you could well find that the Ipack does. It the high temperature light on too? If so then the Ipack could be reported a high temperature, which is putting the fan on full speed.

Definitely can't see anything on the radiator. Just noticed that the handbrake light and the three amigos are on. Even when the handbrake is off. ... will try and upload a photo in a bit.
Thanks for the help this far

OK, I may have found the issue. There is a different number on the original ECU than the other 2.
NNW500091 on the original and NNW500101 on the 2 replacements.
