by way of background the rear window cables were all to hell so replaced all these put it all back together and window went up and down, tailgate opened, glass dropping the small amount etc

ok, so i leave it for a few days and now the tailgate wont open, there is no micro switch click/noise when i try and open it. the window goes up and down and also goes up and down when i turn the key in the tailgate

does anyone know which fuse i should check?

are there any tricks to open it?

is it going to be get the trim off which will be a pain as the door wont open

Getting the trim off is the least of your worries!! I prized the plastic up from under the rubber window seal with the window down, which revealed the plastic clasps the inner trim is secured to the top of the door. Then from inside pull the trim back as far as you can. There are bolts under neath the door which are in accessible when its closed so you won't be able to get the trim off without damaging it.
Point is once you have that done you can just about see the actuator for the lock, and that's about it. Totally awkward to get at and the wiring runs from there across the bottom of the door well beneath the window..
Hope this helps. I'm in the middle of fixing the door locking up problem myself.
