I am a foolish boy, for today I went and looked at a 101. So do I chop in
the series three, spend oodles more than i really should on a toy and get
the big beast.

I've lusted from afar since i was too young to drive, and now i could
reallyown one, with only minimal risk of divorce or bankruptcy....

Do I go for it?

HELL YES do it do it do it NOWWWWWW

i stupidly sold mine 3 years ago and have regreted it ever since..

I WILL be buying one again soon..

Bankruptcy only last for a year these days, 101s last forever.

Divorce is only necessary if she doesn't like 101s, in which case,
give her the house, other cars, bank accounts - keep the dog and 101.
(actually, don't give her all the bank accounts, you'll need a few...)

>Do I go for it?

you couldn't handle it...

....but in case you think you can, download this FIRST:

http://www.101fc.org/docs/buying_101.txt

or in Word format:

http://www.101fc.org/docs/buying_101.doc

when (if) you buy it, download this:

http://www.101fc.org/docs/app-form.pdf

Hope this helps... :)

Too right. Welcome to the madhouse ^h^h^h^h^h club.

DO IT NOW!!!!!

You won't regret it but your wallet will. Worth it as the 101 gives the
most grins per mile of any Land Rover.

Bought mine the day after driving someone elses seven years ago and
never looked back.

Yes, I need to fix that back window too.

Steve

Ok, I've done a deal subject to final inspection and test drive....

Guess I need some advice on this pretty quick. What to look at, what to
prod and poke, what can be sorted, and what should make me run for the
hills?

What is it about the sound of a V8 that makes grown men into fools?

It's like the smell of frying bacon and onions... short-circuits the
cognitive part of the brain.

Hi Mark,

Look for a straight frame - some of 101's were dropped from Hercules
transports with and withOUT parachutes....

Also read Al's site here-
<http://www.users.waitrose.com/~1tonnefc/buya101.htm#look>

Practically all you need to know is on Al's site - the rest is in the
club magazine "Six Stud", but you only get that- and access to the
specialised parts stock- as a member, and Martyn will be along shortly
to give you all the details again

I think the mud-clubbers were in on it... but I didn't want to say much
until the deal was done. Don't know about quiet though - I set off a
Golf car alarm the other day just by driving past it - put a smile on my
face! I've never had a car which made the earth move before.

> What are you going to do with it?

Firstly, start to understand how to pull it apart and put it back
together again, before I take it too far off the beaten track. Then
maybe some foraging expeditions. In a few years I may use it for
something serious overland - Africa or Asia, say. But then again, I may
not, but I thought if I didn't buy it, I wouldn't have the option :)

If you're going to blow money on a car, 101s seem to offer low
depreciation :)

Pretty, and yes, respectively. It's not got power steering, so it's
just a liiiiitle heavy for low-speed manoeuvring. The tyre scrub is
just something you try to minimise by making wide turns. A couple of
people have suggested a hydraulic system for raising the rear axle...

When I picked it up, I drove into Somerfields car park to buy my dinner,
and the diff lock came on and stuck on. Trying to turn it on tarmac
with the diff lock stuck on is not pretty.
