hi all just wonderd if any of you peeps have had any dealings with w j joyce of trowbridge the reason i ask is the hippo is due an oil change (ird auto gearbox rear diff) the man on the phone said unless i was haveing probs with the g box leave it well alone the car has done 154000 miles now cheers all
 
He mentions auto gearbox. LR recommend on a Freelander 1 the auto gearbox oil is changed every 60k miles.
 
twas done at recomended interval well 6oooo anyway just did not fancy doing it my self when i rang the chap he said leave well alone unless i was haveing probs becauce changeing the oil could open a can of worms if it aint broke dont fix it kind of thing what do you all think:confused:

Unless you have a failure of the cooling system which results in the trans fluid being contaminated or there is a sign of leakage i suggest you leave well alone. If the Jatco engineers considered their box refill to be a service item they would have made things easier and, at least, have fitted a dipstick. I think they intended the Jatco box to be treated as a sealed for life unit.
Bear in mind the LR service item is not a change but only a partial refill ie the oill doesn't need changing but just a level check.
The biggest cause of failure with trans fluid is overheating due to abuse of the transmission and the loud pedal, I don't imagine you drive your Td4 in that manner. Do you tow anything heavy as this could affect the heating?
 
have towed a caravan all over europe with no probs and the odd trailer i just thought i would treat the old girl ive had very few probs compared to some peeps or compared to my other landys think i will just change the ird and rear diff the box can stay sealed;)
 
Needs to be done every 60k by someone competent who knows what they are doing. This lot sound hopeless, so find someone capable. Don't go over the recommended mileage as the box can start to behave strangely on old fluid.
 
Quite tricky actually. You must use the correct fluid firstly which isn't so easily available, though your dealer will supply. Next either overfilling or underfilling will eventually damage the box. The level can only be checked when the fluid is at a certain temperature. Finally it's critical that you undo the correct filler bolt & not the similar looking one beside it otherwise you'll lose reverse gear & it's a stripdown job to repair it. That's why I left mine for my garage to do.
 
Sorry to drag up an old post but looking for feedback on WJ Joyce mentioned above. Anyone recommend them?
I want my P38 going through and not sure about them so far.

better believe it jonfre 192000 miles now original box and original fluid still as smooth as silk happy days:D
