Flicking rev counter needle

Hi all,

Every now and then on my disco auto the rev counter needle starts going crazy and flicking up and down whilst iam driving. And then some days it is fine i was just wondering if anybody else has ever had this problem. And if anybody knows how this is fixed.

90% iffy electrical connection, check the sense wire at the rear of the alternator.

Even if it looks good it's well worth taking the connector off the wire and re-making the connection properly with a new connector and cleaning the alternator spade .. makes a world of difference.

Definately is the Alternator wire. Mine did exactly the same for a year, then the Alternator gave up a month ago and after fitting a replacement the Rev counter has been fine.

Does you Battery light work when you turn the ignition on? Mine did not which is why I did not notice the Alternator was Knackered.

That also works fine with the replacement fitted.

Probably just a bad connection then.
