Flat battery... Weird electrics behaviour

I've not used my Freelander now for 4 weeks. I went out to use it tonight and the battery was flat. As in completely dodo like.

The remote didn't work, so I had to use a key. How 20th century is that! Having to use a remote is only slightly better as my Leaf is keyless, but I digress.

Key in ignition. Nothing. No lights. Totally dead.

So called out Flux Rescue who turned up and jump started it. Left it idling for 5 mins. Turned off. Still totally dead.

As there was no fuel in the car to speak of, jump started it again, drove down to fill up with fuel. How weird was that. I've not filled up with fuel in like 1500 miles.

Jump started the car again as the wonderful man followed me there.

I could not unlock the other doors on the car. Or get the rear window to work. Or get the rear wash wipe to work.

I then drive it for about 40mins or so.

The car now seems to restart. Still couldn't get the inside switch to unlock the doors. The window wasn't working either. Strange.

I pulled the fuse to the rear window and it was fine so put back in. Went round to the back of the car and the window had dropped. Ignition in and the window went up. I then tried the remote and that locked the drivers door. I then unlocked it by pressing the unlock button twice and all the doors unlocked.

Why all this weird behaviour with just a flat battery?

It was great to drive the Freelander again, I miss the driving position of the Freelander and the HSE full leather sports seats. But the EV torque is amazing. All available from 0 revs. I like not having to pay so much for fuel. It's so smooth. The Freelander feels so, well 20th century and the Leaf 21st century.

If the tailgate glass didn't drop upon re starting the car then the tailgate will have been out of calibration - sounds like there was not enough power for the glass to drop initially...causing your tailgate probs - not sure about the central locking, probably down to lack of battery power too.

Pleased your up and running tho :)

Well everything worked fine this morning. It was even snowing for a while! Not stayed though. Feels so slow compared to the Leaf....

how's the hippo going

reason I ask is I've just had to replace the battery and done a lot of testing and put the results up here

also I bought a cheap voltage meter that plugs into the cig lighter

saw that a few times it fluctuated , cut a long story short

found that when I replaced the engine oil filter , it weeped abit and is perfect to drop oil onto the alternators plug

cleaned the plug with electrical cleaner and all sorted

also put a nice big 110 varta battery and has been really good

I know that may not be ur problem but just a thought of maybe

Mine did a few strange things after I put the new battery on it (the recommended one so I don't burn the alternator diode out) similar to yours. Rear window playing up (or down) door locks not working properly, all seems to be ok at the moment touch wood.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it is normal then.

The battery was replaced in September with the correct one for the car, but a Varta one.

The Scangauge 2 shows voltage which is 13.9-14.1v with no fluctuations. It was just due to non use of the car over an extended period of time. (over 4 weeks). Longest I had never used it before then was 2 days.

It purred beautifully today. Drives very well. So comfortable.

Hi all! I'm a new member looking for advice on my Freelander 1 tailgate window. Have read lots of threads on here and followed most but I'm having no luck!
Here goes.....
Battery problems! Rear window stopped working also wiper and washer! When button is pressed I get a single tone from CCU.
Tail gate door opens and closes fine with handle makes that familiar regular click.
Changed CCU same tone
Changed regulator complete kit motor rails cables all in one same tone
Pretty handy with multimeter so have checked cables, roof switch, door open close switch, wiper max and min position switch then took to local garage where a basic diagnostic tool was plugged into port in footwell displaying switch status of all local componants that you'd think influence this problem!
The thing is I know the window and the wiper/washer aren't working because it doesn't know if the window is up or not and that tone is because it just isn't happy/satisfied!
Have tried removing battery for different lenghts of time but it doesn't drive down on re connection and its driving me nuts now and my local garage threw the towel in too!
Anyone throw me a lifeline?? Worried a dealership will rinse me for something that takes seconds!

Unfortunately you can't. The battery in the leaf won't do it and the manual says not to. So if I fry the electrics in the Leaf they won't cover it under warranty. Works other way round though. Ice to ev.

Shame.

Buy a solar panel to top up yer FL1 or run it for 5 mins on tick over once a week to keep it going.

I've got a solar charger, but only fitted it a week ago. Maybe the battery was already dead by then. I'll fit it again when it isn't raining and check the output.
