Afternoon Peeps ,

Just wondering if anyone on here has had much experience with a petrol FL2 ?

Reliability
Cost Of Running
Speed & Bhp
Who made the 3.2 unit
What year did they stop producing the petrol ?

The engine is from Volvo. I believe it has some Ford parts in it too.
It's a reasonable unit, although it does have more issues than the diesel unit, and uses a lot more fuel too.

It's pretty powerful at 229 BHP, with 317Nm of torque and a 0 to 60 time of 8.4 seconds.

They come up for sale from time to time (there was one on ebay last week), normally with engine running issues, especially if LPG converted, as it burns the valves.

Keep in mind that it's £600 per year to tax, and will only get 25 MPG on the combined fuel consumption cycle, may owners see sub 20MPG.

The i6 was dropped in 2010 ish, when the SD4 came out.

IMO the SD4 is a better performance version of the FL2, as it has almost the same performance at 8.7 seconds for the pointless 0 to 60 dash, which is impressive considering the SD4 is some 80kgs heavier than the i6, this extra weight is more than offset by the SD4's higher torque output of 420Nm @ just 1800 RPM. Its also much cheaper to run, considering its combined fuel consumption is 38MPG, and it's only £275 to tax, with a lower insurance rating too.

I did look into getting an i6, but when I looked into it, it didn't make financial sense, so decided to go for a diesel FL2 instead.

i6 was dropped after the MY08 model year in the uk. It was unpopular which is likely down to size, running costs and the TD4 being so good. It continued in other countries. Ideal if you don't want the clatter of the diesel. At the time the uk favoured big diesels over petrol. If you want performance the SD4 will do the same for lower running costs.

Cheers folks , reason is I would go for a late diesel but anything Pre 2015 is to be banned in certain roads in Scotland & Petrol Pre 2006 so that’s why I’m looking into petrol

I6 in a nice car to drive, much smoother than the diesels, although the cheaper running of the dizzle is hard to ignore.

FL2 diesels only went up to eu5 emissions with the dpf. We never had ad blue for eu6. Disco sport has that.
