Hi I recently brought a 2000 1.8 commercial FL1. The gearbox needed replacing as it had no reverse gear. Fitted replacement gearbox but since then speedo has not worked. Changed the drive on the top of the gearbox but still no speedo. Anybody have any ideas? TIA

If the box came from an ABS Freelander, and yours isn't an ABS model, then there's probably no drive gear in the box to tune the sensor. That's my best guess anyway.

Thanks, i think that may well be the answer, is it possible to add the drive gear via the top speedo housing or is it just not worth the hassle. I can use a sat nav for speed and you dont need the speedo for an MOT, it would just be better if it worked.

The speedometer drive is via a scroll gear on the diff carrier.
I've arrowed it in red in this picture.

You can look down the sensor hole to see if the scroll gear is present.
If it's not, then the box needs stripping to fit it.

The odometer is part of the MOT ;)
