Hi guys,

I bought a gearbox sound deadening cover for my TD5 as it was missing but I can’t get the bigger over the gearbox. Any suggestions on how this can be done without taking the gearbox off?

Thanks!

I've seen a couple of these acoustic blanket type things over the years, can you post a picture of it as they fit in different ways.

Thats for the belhousing and there are ones for the gearbox and over the top of the engine too.

I personally never liked them, they hold the heat when you really want heat to be dissipating into the atmosphere.

I posted this before you replied James. I haven't tried your method as yet. I've a fair few other jobs done though and the new landy is really coming together now :D

Its the same as this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LANDROVE...430412?hash=item25e0ed2f0c:g:VYgAAOSwV6lZyjmg

It's an original part fitted by land rover i believe. It looks like the garage that replaced the gearbox just before I bought it thought it was ok to leave it off as well as the other rubber gaiters etc. So i've been adding soundproofing to the tunnel and have bought one of these to fit too.

That looks like it sits fight over the top of is as it looks to have a moulding for the starter housing on the bell, can't see any other way to fit it but to drop the box but surely it would make fitting top bolts more difficult.
