Hi there
I could do with a bit of help. I am fitting new front disc pads to my freelander TD4 2005 purchased Mintex pads part No SFP500100 upon fitting pads i have found there not the same as i am taking off. On the pads coming off the outboard pad has horizontal chamfered top corner. The inboard pad has a sloping chamfer apart from this the pads are the same in every way.

I have taken them back to the shop of purchase. We looked at a set of lockheed they are the same as th Mintex no chamfering.

Has anybody had this problem in the Hanyes workshop manual i am working from on page 9.4 he goes to great issue that you must get these pads chamfering on correctly.

hope someone can help steve

Thank ALLAN
I am in the middle of changing them now you now how it is when you take something off you put back the same looking part but new I did think I made a right c*** up its only 2005 year so it not that old.

The only reason for the chamfer is to allow for wear in the discs so if they work ok no squeal then you have nothing to worry about if they do then simply put a chamfer on :)

The set I got were genuine, and all had different chamfers, so each pad was different (needless to say I managed to fit the first pair the wrong way round, and had to do them again) bit since then I've been using Mintex, they are all the same. The genuines did come with new bolts though. Not noticed any difference in wear.

The chamfers there to stop grabbing when using with new discs. Not so important with used discs. I chamfer the leading edge of plain pads ~2mm with a file, but dont breath the dust!
Is it really critical? They all wear to a flat after short usage.

When we last changed the pads on the TD4, we had no end of problems with them squeeling. Tried everything to no avail ... until I realised I had put both inboards on one side and both outers on the other.

Swapped 'em around so they were the way they were supposed to be and Bob's your uncle.

Cheers

Blippie
