FIP sprocket nut?

I am going to take down the front cover and replace the chains.
Following RAVE when coming to the point where the FIP Sprocket are to be kept in place by the tool, but first to remove the FIP nut, I am not able to find any nut!!!!
See point #16 in the attachment.

Has the nut come loose and are lying in the sump? or are there engines where this nut does not exist?
The tool for holding the sprocket just threads on the sprocket as it should do.

Anyway the sump will come down as I am pulling off the front cover.

The sun finally came for a visit today.

I assure you there should be a nut and a pretty tight one at that. I find it hard to believe that your car is running without one.

have you got the correct size socket for the nut? :welcome: put in your location please.

Strangely enough I have had that very nut off twice today and retightened to 50Nm.

The tensioner cover comes off nicely with a 17mm bolt held in a pair of mole-grips (thanks for that tip, kds!). After that the nut is on the end of the FIP shaft. Think it might have been 18mm.

do the mole grips have a torque meter for when you refit the tensioner cover ?

It's a demonstration of how to make a two or three hour job last a week.

Morning Ant, well he's got the right car for "trying" eh. Nobody's knocking him, perhaps a few nuts run down the bolt so a torque wrench could be used to tighten the cover may have been a better idea.

This is true. It's about how much damage you do trying though.

No damage to my tensioner cap. It only nips up. I don't think there are even any advised torque settings for it.

Then the nut has been found, it was still in place, but so rounded by a previous mechanic's attempt to remove it. Had to take off the tube that is the base of the tensioner to see it.
Then it came lose with some gentle persuasion

It should only be done up to 50Nm force.

Maybe he got mixed up between imperial and metric. I found some 5/8" and 11/16" bolts in the mix yesterday!

5/8" is roughly 16mm and 11/16" 17 mm.
