Well it's my 6th landy. (Previously had 2 tdi discos, 2 s3's, 1 defender 110 200tdi, and now this after driving a VW T5 for a few years).

It's a 2004 td5 and seems to be in decent nick, and really original condition. It feels like a real novelty that it has electric windows, and air con. The aftermarket stereo even has hands free so it's the most high tech vehicle I've actually ever owned! After umming and arring for months I finally bit the bullet and paid the obscene price these now demand, but safe in the knowledge that it shouldn't lose money.

Compared with my last defender (1992 200tdi), the interior seems a little less plastic-ey, and with with more mod cons, but very familiar and identical in nearly every other way. Externally she's mint and underneath it is nicely original and rust free but could definitely do with a dinitrol to keep it that way. It drives with even more character and a little more speed than the tdi. Being a 90, it seems to skip along and turning it around in carparks etc feels a doddle given how short it is. I wonder if it has been remapped because it goes much quicker than expected. Certainly it pulls like a train up hills. In time I will probably return it to it's original mapping for longevity if it has been changed, but regardless I'm impressed by how well the engine runs. gear shift is pretty normal and I'm getting used to it, and I will get underneath on the weekend to check the UJs for peace of mind. Overall though I'm dead chuffed! It even has central locking so I feel truly spoilt!

I now await the inevitable first breakdown. In the meantime I have a quick question...
In place of one of the carling switches is what looks like a little USB stick. I unplugged it and it actually looks like a safety key (the kind you see on bandsaws and machinery). Just wondering what it does or if it's likely to be linked to some sort of immobiliser?
