Filler pipe problem

Hi all I'm new to this site so I'm hoping for some help with out any micky taking, I'm stupid I know, but this is what I did, I have a freelander 2 2007 and have a problem with my fuel gauge, I cant decide if its the sensor or the fuel indicator on the dash, so I though I would dip my fuel tank and see if it had as much fuel in it as the indicator was saying, so I thought the best think to use is a metal tape measure as its flexible and firm, so I proceeded in dipping the tank with the tape measure with some tape attached to the end of it and its got stuck! I've tried everything and its firming stuck!! I realise now there is an anti theft devise on the fuel tank which it has obviously got stuck on, so my question is... when you have all stopped laughing.... how do I get it out?? I have cut the end of the tape off and have little sticking out the filler cap and I can still put fuel in.
Any advice would be appreciated

according to the girlfriend a lot of Vaseline or ice at the crotch area helps with her clients:D
 
Push something else (like a long thin screwdriver) down there to push the anti-syphon flap out of the way.
Withdraw your broken tape (it may take a few goes) and then pull the screwdriver back out.
Or, take it to a service place and ask one of those nice men to do it when they have stopped giggling. ;)
 
Wow....as first posts go....that's a cracker!! Welcome...you will fit in just fine. :D
What length of tape is in the pipe?

As you can see it is quite long and could easily snag. Can you access the flexi section nearest the tank?

Hi its about a 4ft piece of measure tape so prob gone right into the tank so unable to put a long screw driver down as suggested, not looked under the car for the flexi section as on nights and not had time to properly look (Blame the nights for being stupid!)
Love the "Ask the nice men" quote little sexist I feel :rolleyes: :D 2 nights to go then will have time to have a proper look.
