Ok so i'll start with the easiest one to explain looked on here but so many things close to what im hearing i though it would be better to ask.

i have a ticking/knocking from around 2000rpm up to about 3500rpm but its only when under load. if i rev in neutral there is no ticking or knocking it actually sounds quite nice! when i first heard it i figured valve clearances but as it dont happen unless under load im lost.

second one i have semi posted about before. its MFU related. i figured it was on its way out/almost dead normal symptoms interior light not working on doors but working on switches, rear fog not working, rear wiper not working and rear demister not working. now last sunday i was working at an event and flew the disco (4 wheel lift wasnt expected hit what looked flat and it wasnt. oops) anyway long story short all my faults have been fixed.

here's where it gets interesting when they all came back my speedo also came back. i have no found the most problems seem to be related to the wires near the back door (boot) but i cant see inside where they go from the boot door i dont think its direct earth issue but thinking could be a non earth thats split and touching. my only confusion is why would it have anything to do with the speedo! as i figured they would be independent for each other.

my final question of the day, is there a way to get to the turbo waste gate to check it without taking off the manifold and also is there a way to get in to the small vacuum pipe to change it or will that have to be done with the manifold off also.

sorry for the LARGE post im limited on cash and experience with landys but very willing to learn anything i need too.

thanks as always guys. any guides/pics and advice welcomed :)

We know you drive a Disco ....

probably a diesel ...

any other clues ?... like how old ?.. what engine 300 / 200 /TD5 ?

Your speedo that's giving you a problem, if it's a 300, picks up the info from the vehicle speed sensor which is located on the transfer box casing so check the wiring plug there first...
Only four things to look at the electrical plug connections, the speed sensor and link cable or the speedo head itself..

Check Fuse 12 10A, check it's fitting into the fuse carrier as well, as that gets gunky and electrickery dunt like that ...

sorry bout lack of info hehe she's a 300TDI 1998 model, transducer has been changed did that weeks ago but it didnt fix the problem but as i have a speedo on my phone i wasnt too bothered. however it was on my list of look into's. plan was to rewire the transducer but im still having trouble working out where and what the wires run too. just confused me it started to work again randomly i had always put it down to a bad connection or earth issue as it always went to 25mph as i pulled off then as i changed to 2nd it would go to 46mph and then it would stay there until i hit about 75 and it would spring back to life. anyways i'll check that fuse shortly and report back on if its dirty, as for the MFU i dont plan touching it until i can find a replacement as its my day to day car as well as work horse and i cant afford to have it off the road :(

Seems there's still people that don't know MFUs are only on the 300 series disco so petrol or diesel. :(
Put you MFU into the diagnostic function to test its functions, if u find it faulty replace it and bin the old one as that's all u can do with it.

thanks for the reply discool cant put it into diag mode try'd that couple of weeks ago one of the issues being the buzzer dont work, something else i could do with working as i have a habit of leaving my lights on haha. so yeah until i get a unit i can replace it with (find a scrappy with one and get the cash together) i dont plan on touching it until then. while there's a little interest in this post whats your guys views on changing the drive flanges! would you say its something i can do outside the house or if not what should i expect to pay to get them done.

ok so quick update i took the fuse box out and tested from back of fuse 14 (yellow green cable) to the transducer, connection is good. while in there i figured take a chance remove the MFU and take a quick peek. turns out i will NEVER get the buzzer/beeper to work as someone has been inside the unit before me and removed it. also tested from the back of the clocks pin 2 (red/black wire) to the transducer and all is good there also.now i do understand this just tells me the wire is running A to B and not if theres a small split touching something at times and earthing out so im also ordering 10m of cable and im going to re-run the wires just in case but failing that i guess my speedo issues will then have to be the clocks. still open to any input on the drive flanges though :). i also stripped out all the wires in the back pillar (where they join the boot door) everything looking good other than one wire that initially looked like an earth but when tested it dont pick up from any of the earth points, tapped it up and now things seem to be working! more updates as i find new things (probably wrong) lol

Hi Guys
I am new to this forum ,please bear with me.
Discovery 1 (1994) indicators sometimes work sometimes refuse to work. Relay changed but no luck. Hazards work ok.
Does the MFU (Multi functional unit ) has to do with the indicators.
can it be a dry joint in the MFU?
