I'm getting to the point now where I'm considering parting with the beloved P38..

It's not me my love.. its you... most definitely you...

Having spent time effort and energy getting the P38 sorted from the ground up. Its now wearing me out..

So far this year new brakes head gasket and top end rebuild, custom fitted sun shades so baby is protected when/if summer comes..new shoes all round replacing the heater O rings has found my limit..
Two 35p rubber rings in a Land Rover bag has wound me up to the point of considering parting it down or just salvaging valuable items and scrapping the rest.

Yes the pipes should just slot in the groove and nip the clamp up. But no.. its not having it.. the top pipe refuses to seal at the top.

Taking the blend motor out gives greater visibility to the top. No the plastic isn't cracked it's just a very bad design.

Yes the wife and I have had a discussion about what to replace it with.. she hated it at first but now loves it. Likes the visibility the comfort the driving position compared to tge Cayenne but venturing more than a few miles from home leaves both of us stressed. With a wet carpet on the drivers side and a falling coolant level.

Change the heater matrix for an Audi one and do away with the o rings, cannot remember who posted that they did it

Can only suggest you have damaged the O'ring seal surface inside the plastic by not entering the pipe straight. O'ring should be lubed, applied to pipe, pushed in square and twisted either way until locator engages. Then pushed in fully. Then clamped.

Well that's the thing.. talking of dumb designs.. to get the dash out means taking the wood trim bits out they are stuck fast and any more pressure will crack them.

So a whole new dash and wood trim and more weekends spent working on cars not spending time with the baby and being knackered for work on Monday. . Nope.. no more..

Yup... done exactly that .. using an inspection mirror I can look down the pipe and see the tab it's intact the pipe just doesn't sit square on enough and so it pushes coolant out the top.

time out fella, take a break from it for a few days a go back to it when your ready. You'll find it easier or even clearer. Then decide its fortune.. If youve planted all your time and money into it, only to let somebody else drive it all away. Any car will test you! Thats all this is, is a test of all your made of!!;)

That's the thing. I don't have a few days. I have weekends only. Leave for work at 0650 back at 1800 no public transport so can't leave wife and baby stranded during the week.

The o rings have hit my limit of tolerance with the Green Oval.

Think you will find the wood trim bit is plastic coated metal. Tangs pressed into plastic grommets hold them in place. One a couple of inches in from each end and one in the middle on the long one.

That's what I thought.. the long one started to get a stress fracture when I was trying to lever it off using a long trim remover and getting it from the back side..

Anyone any ideas what to replace a P38 with.. anyone who says an L322 will get a slap

Ford Ka or maybe a Smart car. Nothing wrong with the heater design if jobs are done properly.

What are you implying dear wammers?

Well no disrespect but if you cack handedly damaged the inner plastic O'ring seal surface, taking it out on the car and getting all wound up with it is a little silly. A ball ache i know, but you dropped the bollock not the heater matrix. ;);)

No bollocks dropped here.. I seem to have it solved.. by disconnecting the pipes in the engine bay to get free movement and using a long bar to hold them off the pipes (as that's where the LPG coolant feeds are taken from - with 2 pieces and 6 hose clips getting free movement is restricted)

I sincerely hope that this sees the P38 good for a while at least...

Sweepstakes... what's next.. winner gets a Land Rover Key Ring !

Get yourself a diesel, you know it makes sense. No daft LPG to negotiate. :D:D:D
