Facia Grommet things

For some bizarre reason, as part of me replacing the door lock barrels I have decided to refurbish the door cards for my Defender. Im going to clean and then vinyl dye them as close to the colour as possible. When I was messing about last night I decided to take off the dash (for the 5th time!) try and remove the grey facia panel as well so that I could match the colour with the door cards.

Does anyone have any tips regarding removal of these bl00dy grommet things keeping it on. All the screws etc came out as I had copper greased everything, but not these plastic things.

And when refitting replace the plastic clips with screws, that is what someone has done on mine.
