Been trying for about 3 hours now to get my tdi connected to the 110's gearbox... to no avail. I've done everything I can think of, got a jack under the gearbox, been wiggling and jiggling and shaking and pushing and pulling, I can get all the studs lined up with the holes, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get it to close that last inch... it's like something is stopping it :(:mad:

At a loss... packed up for today but wanna get it done quick because every day is costing me more money on the hoist rental. :(

any thoughts appreciated :)

It took us a whole day to get one lined up once.......then we went back to it and it dropped in after 5 mins.....just make sure the clutch is lined up and if its a new clutch make sure the shaft actually goes through. We fitted a new bjorg and beck clutch and it was really tight on the shaft that it wouldnt push thtrough. I have a shaft off an old gearbox that we had to hammer through first to free it up. Oh and make sure to grease your shaft a little so it slides. Also check your brass thing where the shaft goes into aint buggered up.

Im with Sirus on this , but its critical you line the clutch up central with the nose bearing in the flywheel , by the sounds of it thats what has happend .

Hah, cheers for the replies. Whether it was an act of God, or sheer blind luck, I managed to get it in within 5 minutes of going back out to do it. I only went out to cover it up and put me tools away, but thought "**** it I'll have one last go". dropped the gearbox down, dropped the engine down, raised the engine by an inch or two, gave it a shove, then progressively tightened up the nuts until it was tight the whole way round :D well pleased. Looks brilliant sat in there :) Got the engine mount rubbers in so the hoist can go back tomorrow... yesss :)

Not bad for a dopey 18 year old huh?? :D

Good man - feels good don't it? :)

Ian.

Yep feels awesome. Can't wait to get her all hooked up now. :)

Congrats but why dint your 6 brothers help you out?:D:D

Well, Sleepy kept dropping off and letting go of the hoist, Sneezy's nose kept getting agitated by the dirt, Doc refused to get his hands covered in oil, Bashful kept trying to sneak off back to his room, Happy was high on crack, and Grumpy was just being a tit and ****ing everyone off. So I ended up doing it on me own.

yep, couldn't believe it when it just slotted in, such a satisfying feeling. Think it must have been what you said about the crank being aligned so the splines went into the clutch properly, I twisted it round a bit on my 2nd attempt.

The one we had that wouldnt go in had a 6ft 4x4 box section prying and wiggling it around and it was having none of it. Even stood over the engine shaking it round infuriating things sometimes:D:D

Took me 10 Minutes to get mine in and i am younger than you!:D

Amazing feeling when it runs :) I done the timing belt, Rear Crank, Injector pump swap ect ect. Just waiting for some fuel pipes after the previous owner replaced them all.. Done it all ****ing wrong with wrong olives ect ect  Gutted when it cut out after 10 seconds :( It shall live again soon though!

I did the very same haha - at one point I got so ****ed off with it that I took my sledge and put some massive dents in the disco to relieve the anger -- poor disco :D:D

Bastid! :D you obviously had yor output shaft lined up proper the first time then unlike me haha. good job though still an achievement. Why did ya swap the injector pump?

Had a similar experience....http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/cant-get-97276.html Bloody landies!! :D

Hah, yeah sounds very similar to mine and sirus' too. bastidding things.

I wrote my old engine off  Pistion Split in 2, Con-rod in the side of the bore.. Proper Job!

Got another TD (To skint for a 200 :() off G-man for nowt :) But it had a split boost diagham. Whilst the engine was out i decided to do the timing belt, Rear Crank, Injector Washers, Clutch and some other bits (Loverly trade discount on parts :D) So it was easier for me to swap a known good injector pump off my old engine than it was to change the boost diagham :) Just need the fuel pipes and i shall be away :D

Ah fair play, sounds good :D

Yeah, I mean the TD will never be a Tdi, but when in good nick they're not too bad at all in my opinion. My TD went fine before the cylinder head cracked, I was satisfied with the performance since I don't do much motorway stuff.
