Would it matter if i had an extra fuel pump in the fuel line?

Im swapping from petrol to diesel. And there is a fuel pump next to the fuel tank, however the 200tdi has one already so would it be better to remove the old pump or wont it make any difference?

Also this mite sound a daft question but would this pump be pumping out of the tank or back into the tank? Just that i wasnt sure if the old engine had a built in pump also and needed an extra pump for the return?

Thanks, scott

It does not usually matter if there is another fuel pump inline, as the operational one will either pull or push thru the other. That is unless if diaphraghm type and hole in diaphragm.
With ref to other query , It would have been pumping from tank, ther is no requirement for return pump .
If the pump by tank is still wired up it will operate, unless you disable it, put a switch inline and you have a built in standby pump . HTSH

Thanks alot mate thats very helpful! Ileave it in place then, itl save me replacing the gap in the pipe where the pump was too! :D

Oh just thought! How will i know its a diaphram type?

The in line one i have next to the tank is cylindical shape with the fuel pipe going in one side and coming out the opposite.
