Hi guys, just about to order an extended breather kit for my 90, I've found this one on flea bay that seems to fit the bill: eBay.ie: LANDROVER DEFENDER ultimate wading kit BREATHER KIT (item 130473511263 end time 08-Feb-11 17:49:43 GMT)

My question is, this kit doesn't include a breather for the front of the timing case. Looking at mine (300 Tdi) The plate that is on it doesn't have a hole so do I need to fit a breather or is that only for engines that have a hole on the little cover?

that kit only replaces the both axle breathers and the gear box, transfer box breathers. it gives you blanking bungs for the bell housing and timing case.

if you intend on doing deep wading you will need extended breathers for.

font axle
back axle
gearbox
transfer box
bell housing
timing case
fuel tank breather
injector pump breather

i plug the bell housing and the timming case, but do have a fuel tank one fitted, I bought the bits seperately off of ebay, that kit puts them all in to the one breather pipe at about bonnet level, so depending on what your doing it could be possible for diesel to mix with your oils.

Never heard of an injector pump breather?? new one to me

asked this question myself a while back but was told there is no need for a timing case breather.

in most ebay kits you get the bungs for the bell housing and timing case thrown in.

The plugs are 1/4 BSP and are about a £1 for t2 from toolstation, On ebay you can buy 1/4bsp elbows to 8mm pneumatic hose and make your own breather kit, I did i joined the 2 axles and the gearbox/tranny box together up at the bulkhead and then ran the 2 up the side of my snorkal and got a push fit connector to connectthe fuel one and ran that up the snorkal as well, Think it cost me about £15 from ebay including delivery

Do you need all of these for a td5 ??

Do you need all of these for a td5 ??

all except timing case as the td5 has a timing chain and the injection pump one as a td5 is common rail.
but you will need to relocate the ecu to a higher location out of waters way.

its in the back of the bosh injection pump the bit with a rubber boot thing on it.
cant remember what you do as its been a while since i done one, think there is a special size fitting needed.

I forgot about this thread

Gearbox and transfer box are almost next to each other. You will find them on the top, slightly to the drivers side (where the yellow pipes end in the pics) Bellhousing is found on the bottom of the gearbox directly below where the clutch is - you should see a hole on the bottom unless there is a plug already installed. Not sure on fuel tank, I was under the impression that they used the filler cap as a breather, but i'm sure someone else will clarify that ;)
