Every few years my rear silencer pipe corrodes and breaks.
Is this a common issue with everyone?

Anyone know of a suitable repair technique, other than bodging it with a Baked Bean tin and jubilee clips :D

Part number LR150C i believe?

Replace with a stainless steel system. Not cheap but will outlast mild steel by a long way.

I got one for each of my previous discoveries. One from Rimmer Bros and one for Double Two in Devon who used to advertise in LRO. Both were good quality.

Look for a genuine landrover one on ebay, they last for many years, my original exhaust is still going strong after 15 years. Used genuine ones on ebay should still be worth buying. Cheap After market ones dont last five minutes.

There was a stainless one fitted to my 90 when I bought it 9 years ago and its still doing its job, surface corrosion and the fixing bolts are nicely rusted but plenty of life left yet.

My D3 still has its original system and thats now 13 years old so they can be made to last.

I think I would baulk at the cost if I had to buy one, but if the cars a keeper its a no brainer.

Anyone know what Britpart rear tail pipes are like, seeing as they are only about £30?

Three years tops. I tend to get 18-24months before it needs replacing. If I could find somewhere that sold individual stainless parts rather than a hole kit I would replace with stainless. But so far have not been able to somkeep replacing with cheap britpart ones. Last time I priced it up I think I would need to swap the whole system about 8 times before it paid for itself to fit full stainless kit.

Thats the problem isn't it. With standard system being fairly cheap I can't bring myself to buy stainless. Plus if a tyre throws something up onto the exhaust I'd be grateful it wasn't stainless.

Fit scaffolding tube. It’s galvanised.

I got a SS stainless for Henry but it’s not the best. It will however outlast the 18 month britpart ones I used to fit and the box dint leak on the seams like they all did.

Shi t. I bought one wasnt properly bent, diameter was smaller than it should be. Rear box was 20% larger than the old one. Finally didnt actually fit because of the above issues.
I have never had any issues with mine. All have fitted and none have leaked. Maybe I have just been lucky.

20190416_203131.jpg I ordered a size to slip over mine and welded it to the pipe but you can order with split ends or without, lots of stainless suppliers on there and they are very good, I put stacks on my pick up recently using stainless.

Sadly mine has corroded right next to the silencer box, so there no pipe to slip it over.
I would just cut the pipe and use a peice of flexi in place of the box and tailpipe, it's rigid when shaped so will stay where you route it
