hi, I have searched the net and can't find an answer anywhere. I have just acquired a 97 discovery 300tdi auto. It's totally rotten but has a good engine and gearbox. I fancy the challenge of fitting it into my 94 defender which has a 300tdi in it. The disco engine has edc and I know everyone says to bin the edc and fit a mechanical pump but I want to have a go. Once I've stripped the whole engine/gearbox and loom out, what hurdles will I face getting it to go? I'm most concerned about how to power up the ecu and get passed any security that may be built into loom. Any pointers would be great.

Nick

I had a 300 auto which was chipped and that was the fastet tdi I have ever driven way better than tweaked inj pumps.
Be interesting to see how you get on so keep us updated

How difficult would it be? I could change the pump and injectors but at the moment the engine and box has cost me nothing and I want a challenge over the winter getting it going as I take the defender off the road over the winter anyway.

Nick.

Knowing land rover once you get the loom out of the disco its probably dead simple, from memory I dont think the keys are chipped so security will only be through the remote fob.

Other thing is with the edc is the bits are virtually worthless, so you can get spares for pennies, also used to be some cheap plug in type tuning chips on ebay second hand, only thing I think thats NLA is number 4 injector with the pulse widget/wire in it.

I wonder if anyone else has done it before?

I was looking on that auction site and number 4 injectors are available along with the throttle potentiometer. I'm sure I read on here that someone had transplanted on into a defender but I can't find it now.

Nick.
