Engine surging while driving

Hi all I have a discovery 300tdi it runs well on idle and when under acceleration. But when you back off the throttle to cruise at a speed the hole vehicle starts to surge. Any ideas what this could be. About 6 months old this vehicle was stood for about 5 years

Er, OK - tell us a bit more about the D1 - man / auto / EDC ? - some idea of recent servicing ... mileage .....

It sounds a bit like the governor in the FIP - but need more info ...

It's a 1995 300tdi with approx 130000 on the clock. It's a manual it had a full service in June including all the diff oils and gearbox. Other than that it was stood for 5 years

Were the injectors changed at 100K Miles ? ( they should have been according to the (LR) service schedule ) ....

Fuel filter done as part of the service ?

Has it had some injector cleaner through it ?

Still suspecting FIP - specifically governor might be gummed up / worn out .... Injector cleaner would be worth doing if not already done ...

Running on pure Derv ? rather than Derv and veg oil or ???

What about mineral TSO? worth running 1% IMHO.
