The engine is coming out and needs to be stripped down. Defender 300Tdi. Re-bore needed. I've been googling threads on many forums and the general concensus of engine weight is up to 350kg.
Looking for an engine stand and found this. http://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-equipment/engine-stands/es1000-450kg-engine-stand
The reviews are good and it's very reasonably priced. Are stands easy to fix to the engine? I'm presuming I'll need to get bolts to go through those four adjustable legs. Do they bolt to the bell housing end or are there bolt holes in the other end of the block? If so which holes should I use?
All guidance gratefully received. Other stand recommendations too.

I've got one of their folding stands and it hasn't collapsed or caught fire, so it's all good.

Take the bell housing off and bolt the engine to the stand using the widest spread of the legs. So as not to worry about bolt length, I just got some m10 threaded bar and nuts then used that instead of bolts.

Cheers, SpringDon. Appreciate the recommendation. I'll order one. :)

Yes, I've got a few SGS Engineering things including an engine hoist and a hydraulic press, and all seems good, despite the fact that they're very reasonably priced.

Magic! Cheers, Brown. I'm going to order one tomorrow.
Another learning curve on the way. :)

I have an SGS hoist and stand, both recommended from me.

Out of interest, their presses, what size is appropriate for a DIY'er?

Bought the engine stand and it should arrive this week. Sadly, work commitments mean it will be at least two weeks before I can lift the engine out. Sooner I retire the better. :) Although, work does pay for the parts

I use a 20t press at home. At the time I bought it a few years ago I thought it was overkill for what I use it. But I'm glad I did now, lr bushes can be very tight and some have taken quite some time to get out.

It's amazing how tight bushes can be I did my a frame bushes and a 20 ton press would not shift them, lucky we have a local engineering shop with a 120 ton model that did it, went with quite a bang.

Yes, get an SGS press. I got the 20 ton one:

With pictures of me using it here:

I'm glad I got the 20 ton one.
It's also been pressed into service (ha ha) shifting bearings on transfer box shafts. Very good so far.
That's the bushes I struggled with on the A frame but a 20 ton would not shift them.
Did them and the ball joint and it seemed to make a big difference to the ride not nearly so clunky.
By the way your 90 looks quite like mine but you have windows in yours.

When I bought mine back in 2012 I was looking at some van sided ones (as well as a few 300 TDis with rotten chassis), but in the event this CSW showed up on Ebay with very low mileage for the year. So that's what I got. How are your electronic gremlins?

Thought I was OK but showed up again last week, looking at a big plan including ripping out the seat box, putting in my "done up" transfer box, connecting my heated seats, and modified the harness with totaly new injector and crank sensor cables.
Well I can dream can't I?
