whilst having my ecu checked to see if vehicle had been "chipped",we found engine oil in the ecu/main harness connector plug under the drivers seat.we know the harness is connected to the injectors inside the cam cover and therefore oil is being somehow forced all the way down the wires to the ecu plug which was full of engine oil.the company checking my ecu told us they could replace the ecu loom and that would cure the problem.has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did you cure yours and how long did it last.

Hi,

I've got the same problem. Searching the web for a while, I found a Technical Bulletin (0026) where our problem is explained in detail.

So this problem is a known problem.

Technical Bulletin 0026 - 23.08.2000

For the moment I try to take up contact with Landrover in order to receive a refunding of this complex repair.

After the problem is evident after 100000 km only, usually the guarantee period is already past.
What did you make?

Best wishes from Austria
Tom

some cars do it before that period of time the oil seeps down the inside walling of the injector harness causing oil to contaminate the ecu,you can normally get away with replacing injector loom in top of head and clean out red connector with descent connector cleaner/solvent and it should be ok,worse case replace whole loom and engine ecm as they all get buggered sorry for the bad news worse on defenders as its easy to roll down hills not so bad on discoverys as ecm in different place.
