Hi there,

I need to buy a 200tdi engine to use in a conversion of my 2.5n/a defender. I have found one but I need some help as I am not sure if it is a 300tdi or a 200tdi.

It is from a K reg discovery, which in theory is therefore 1993 and before the 300tdi was introduced in 1994, and has the same round dipstick coming out of the side of the engine with a circular handle however it also has the black plastic/rubber cover on top. Here are some pictures, if someone could let me know what they think it would be a great help.

Cheers

Matt

It's a 200tdi. The rubber sound deadening can be retrofitted. 300tdi has dip stick at front of engine and serpentine belt driving alt, power steering etc.

Discovery 200tdi turbo in a different location to Defender version , suspect the timing cover arrangement is also different on defender.

Just love my A8. Sadly, my deteriorating health dictates she must go. I'm due for next spinal surgery on New Years Eve. Struggling to get out of her as she's the Quattro Sport version and very low. Easy to fall into though! No guarantee the surgery will make my mobility any better.
You ever driven one?

No the wife is into Audis, on her 3rd A6 now an allroad, this drives nice as on air, the previous ones were s-lines, bugger me they were bloody hard to ride in, I would use any excuse going to avoid travelling in them.

As Blackburn says, turbo different location, timing cover different, bottom hose will get hit by fan, air filter box will have to be changed too & rad mods as well if you got oil cooler.
Check out glencoyne engineering, it’s not that straightforward, but good luck
