Morning all.

I'm thinking about buying a 2014 Disco 4 but have started reading the crankshaft failure horror stories and am now getting seriously cold feet over the idea! I did read somewhere that Land Rover redesigned the crank bearings around 2012 and therefore the failure rate in post 2012 SDV6 engines should be much lower than the earlier Disco 4s. Can anyone confirm if this redesign is true, and if so, if it has had any impact on reliability of the engine?

One other much less important question: Are the facelift DRLs active on all trim levels, or only on the HSE as I believe they were in the earlier models?

I look forward to hearing your opinions on this one!

Thanks

Hi Metman86, sorry you didn't appear to receive any information of the Disco 4 engine failures - I'm in a similar position, currently have a Disco II, but wondering about getting a Disco 4, but have also read about what appears to be many engine failures and also wondered about the redesign. Did you manage to get any information on this and / or did you get one and if so what has been your experience? Many thanks

Im led to beleive the redesign was they added tabs to the crank shells as the previous ones were untabbed and people seem to think this was an issue, but many other makes of engines run with no tabs and no issues.
