P38A Engine choices

What if any engines will drop straight into a1998 p38 4litre petrol gems vehicle.
I am assuming that the thor engine only fits electrically on later models.
Is there anything landrover wise that is a straight swop?

Any of either the 4.0 or 4.6 V8s will drop straight in. Thor will require lots of electrical jiggery pokery in the engine department, so best to convert the Thor lump with GEMS peripherals and mod the CKS mount to take the GEMS sensor.
4.6 V8s will probably kill the 4.0 autobox fairly quickly. If manual they'd be on the 380Nm limit for the R380 but it seems to stand up to abuse quite well.
No other LR lump is a straight swap.

'fraid so...unless you are into sado-masochism and have money and time to spare in large quantities.

I know people that have transfered thor into gems. Can be done. All anciliries need swapping though . Ie oil pump inlet manifold ECU bellhousing.( Basically swap the engine)
