I just changed out my exhaust manifolds for headers and ditched the cats - well worth the noticeable increase in power and gas mileage - as far as I am concerned. The downside is that my engine check light has come on - I checked the code and, of course, it is the O2 sensors looking for the different exhaust post cat. I placed the post-cat sensors right into the pipes with the appropriate nut - so they are in the hot gas - just not cat-gas.

My query is: how do I ditch the code and shut the check engine warning lamp off?

Am I correct in guessing you are in the US ? If you are then I suppose your disco is running a Gems injection system - not 14Cux.Please post back with the full spec and I will try to offer a solution.

Hi there 8-in a -V,

Well, I am actually in Canada - and I am just getting familiar with my 1997 landi disco. I am not certain what the injection system is for up here - but my suspicion woud be that it is the same as the US (i.e., for North American market).

I got the local garage to pull the code but I am not at all certain if this will be an effective long-term solution. Perhaps I need to change 02 sensors?

I'll see what else I can dig up on the injections system;

thanks for your help in adavnce;

What did the codes say ? Does your engine have a distributor or 4 coil packs at the back - this will explain which efi system you have.The post cat sensors normally switch at a slower rate than the upstream ones,here in the UK not many of the cars I see are fitted with downstream sensors,so it will be interesting to know what the codes relate to.
Do you not have to put the car throgh an annual emissions test?Got your E-card,looks smart.Post the codes etc,and I'll try to help you.

Hello Eightinavee,

I have the 4 coil packs at the back of he engine near the firewall.

The codes were PO130 - O2 sensor Circuit malfunction (Bank 1 sensor 1)

and very briefly - I got a PO441 Emmission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow - but I could not resurrect this code after my first reading of it yet the PO130 O2 Sensor codes kept coming back.

These codes ome under the Generic Codes table in my manual as I do not have a Land Rover specific manual.

any help would be much appreciated;

Wolf

Hello again Eightinavee

Over on the lower mainland, yes, every five years you have the emmission controls check by the governent - but I am not on the lower maninland - so I am fortunate - so far! Some Provinces, such as Manitoba do not require cats at all as the population density is so low (remember, we are the second largest country in the world in terms of square miles and with a very low population density in most regions - 36 million people in totral in the country)

Hi Outback Jack,

Well, you guys have much more Landy driveable land than us in your square-mileage - as most of ours is muskeg, water, tundra, mosquitos and blackflies in the 3 week summer - ice and snow the rest of the year.

Most of Canada's population is stretched out along its border with the USA - our north, which is the vast majority of our land, is useless for anything but flying over!

Much better Disco-land in Oz - by far!

Hello Eightinavee,

Did you see my posting on the codes?

Sorry,been busy - P0130 means slow response,upstream sensor,bank A.So you have not caused this by removing the cats,if you have immediate access to a code reader I suggest you swop the upstream sensors from side to side - you should get code P0150,(sl res ba B) this will prove that the sensor is ageing and incapable of responding quickly enough.
If it stays with P0130 then you need to check if the sensor is being heated properly,earthed properly etc.You can compare readings from bank B to decide which is correct.Your sensors are Titania ones which will give a constant 5v output from the black sensor wire if they are not heated enough to make them switch.They are also the opposite output to Zirconia ones in as much as they read lean at 5v and rich at 0v.(Zirconia - 0v,lean - 0.8v rich)
Have a play around with it let me know what you find,sounds to me like a simple bad connection or a sluggish sensor,I dont think its too serious.Good luck.
P.S. I'm away now till Monday,catch you when I return.;)
