Hi not been on for a while car been running fine but failed mot today on emissions lambda it's a 2000 4.6 I have got a nanocom and was wondering where to start any help would be much appreciated

First check for fault codes on the Bosch ECU, and fix anything that's required. Then take out the O2 sensors and soak them in carb cleaner for a couple of hours. Blow them out with airline before refitting. New air filter, and reset fuel trims. Then go for a blast down the motorway before getting retest.

If you know the MOT guys well enough, they might do a quick check for you without doing the official re-test.

I know it's likely they would have checked, but a small hole in the exhaust can also cause this. Check for leaks when removing the O2 sensors. Also, if they've been in for a long time, it is entirely possible they may break off (like mine did) and/or strip the threads on their way out.

Make sure you can lay hands on replacement set and have a re-threading tool to hand to repair the threads.

What was the lambda reading if too lean which is a fail look for leaks on the exhaust system. If too rich how old is the maf sensor?

They said the the car was to rich the may sensor is about 2 years old but I think I can test it on the nanocom will test it later and see what readings say just off out for new air filter and plugs frank u for the advice

Oh thanks now I understand sorry not that good with these computers yer I've got the right one was looking for the bosh ecu

Maybe go for a drive with Nanocom capturing all the Motronic data. Just select the Inputs menu, press record & give it a filename. It should record all the engine ECU values for you.

Then it can be looked at in Excel & graphed to see if the sensors are responding properly. Upload the raw CSV file and others can check it.

Thanks for that will have to try download the new update on the nano com 1st as got problem with the down load at the moment but will try to do the drive the wkend

Not saying the nanocon module has done it just haven't got the new record software on it will try to get a copy of what's going on onto a ad card then put that data up on here thanks
