Afternoon all,
Right iv got a new problem, me starter motor doesn't want to work for some reason. When you turn the key in the ignition all the usual lights light up, but nothing from the starter motor, its as though theres no power going to it at all. Iv followed the wires from the starter motor up through the bulkhead to behind the dials on the dash, all seem to be fine and undamaged.

I absolutely hate electrics, so i was wonderin if any of you have any ideas?

find the solenoid, usually near the battery if it's a standard petrol and check the small wire has +12v on it when you turn the ignition key

the large wire from the starter will run back to it if you can't find it

Might be earthing problem. If your setup is the same as mine, I have a ground from the starter to the chassis - make sure the lead itself is decent - clean up the terminals on the lead and where it attaches.

If you have got a second pair of hands might be worth seeing if the voltage drops when you turn the key.

Failing that, I would take the starter off and connect it directly to battery to test it.

already tried earthing it, hooked up a jump lead from the -ve on the battery to the block itself, made no difference. I think I might have to take it off tomorow!!!

think it's a bit hasty taking the starter off especially when the solenoid has +12v across it yet isn't clicking

get a spanner and short across the large solenoid terminals first to see if the starter turns

right, that shorting seems to work, it turned itself over fine. So am i right in thinking that the problem lyes in the ignition, as i have already checked the wires?

nope

if you get 12v on the small wire that is attached to the solenoid when you turn the ignition key to the "start" position it means the solenoid isn't working - it's just a heavy duty relay

would be worth taking it off, cleaning all the connections (especially the smaller coil feed) and try it on the bench before you finally can condemn it

Right, checked solenoid nd guess wot...its ****ed. Once again sean you have proven that you really should be the dictator of the world!!!
:praise:
