hi i have looked on here and net but i cant find anything usefull

i have a disco 1 300tdi
i have put some LED strip lights in footwells but i can not find a way to run them as i intended

i want to run through a on/off/on rocker switch (3 pin)

interior and footwell lights to come on when i open doors
when switch in position 1 just footwell lights on
position 2 interior + footwell lights on

i can get all lights on in pos 2 and when doors open but as its a negative switch when i try to sort pos1 (footwells only ) i am getting everything lit up

can i use relays to solve the problem if so what type do i need and any chance of a wiring diagram or point me in right direction

thanks dave

Done it with the strips of green LEDs just connected to the interior light so all ar on with the door open. You are making things complicated perhapes you require a diode to stop the reverse feed. Where are you picking your supplies from?

Yes they are, but to illuminate they are arranged to allow voltage to pass, it's that voltage or switch earth that needs to be blocked via a diode.
It depends on the method the LEDs have been wired in relation to the existing interior lights where the blocking diode is fitted, is it the same or different 12v supplies.

My LED door edge/puddle lights have a seperate supply but switched to earth by the same door pin switch as the interior light so a blocking diode was used.

Do a continuity check between the pins.If the 2 outputs connect in both positions you need another switch. You may have a basic 2 position on
I suggest a classic Off, On, On. Something like a light switch.
This is wired pos to lights and neg through switch.

Hope this helps

hi i have run a direct earth to centre pin on switch and also tapped into door switches jointed to direct earth

permanent lives are from existing interior lights and run a new for LED's (constant lives)

pin 2 switching earth on for both interior and LED's
pin 1 to switch earth on just for LED's (not working as back feed is turning everything on) could i run this through a relay or something so it only lights LED's

the switch i got is on/off/on
centre pin feed
switching on ether pin 1 or pin 3 depending on switch location
centre turns everything off

thanks for the help

My solution is
You will have 3 basic circuits
1) The original lighting
2) your LED
3) Relay

What you need to do is to:
Connect the door switch to terminal 30 AND 85 of the relay
Relay terminal 87 goes to your LEDs
Relay terminal 86 goes to one output of your switch.
The switch input is +ve
Connect your LEDs to +ve

Doing this means you only need an On/OFF switch

Hope this helps
