So this morning, the mrs took a corner a bit harder than usual & my can of monster went all over me, and down the side of the seat,

I quickly got the interior shampoo out in my OCD state & cleaned it up,

I may have missed some, a few hours after my seat control stopped working & fuse was blown, tried another fuse, blew instantly.

I'm going to get the seat up & hope that it's just the sticky crap shorting something & that some electrical cleaner will help.

My question is, can i just straight up "remove" the passenger seat to get at the wires rather than clambering underneath, call me stupid i heard there was an airbag in the seat?? < Anything is possible with LR.

Are there any safety steps i need to obverse before removing the seat? I hunted around the site for a guide but doesn't seem to be any on this. (don't tell me this hasn't happened to you..)

I've got appropriate tools for the job no problem & I've got some electrical spray (wire cleaner < idk) should i bother to d/c battery? what's the process for this again.

I'll be alright, i'm a little nervous working with such a big darn battery in the car, I just need things put down in plain english

Many Thanks in advance!

Disconnect battery first - the seats do have either airbags or the pyrotechnic seatbelt pre-tensioners....

To disconnect the battery: Turn ignition off and take keys out of the barrell and put in your pocket - Open the bonnet -open the boot - take the L/H side panel out to expose the Sat Nav computer - wait 3 minutes or so for the Sat Nav red light to go out - disconnect the NEGATIVE lead (obviously being mindful you don't short against the Positive terminal) - wait 20 minutes for the system to discharge.....

You can now remove the seat for cleaning.

Do not reconnect the battery while the seat is disconnected...

On reconnection of the battery, leave a door open and ensure the keys are still in your pocket....put the Negative terminal back on in a purposeful manner and don't hesitate - you want to minimise sparks and electrical spikes as much as possible.

Oh and tell the short one to drive with a little less enthusiasm :D:D:D:D

Fantastic, thanks and 20mins will discharge ALL power and allow me to work without panic? haha..

As for whatever's shorted below the seat, is it feesable to think that there's a small damp down there where cables join etc & that if i dry it out & clean & reconnect that might solve it?

Ta

Just, i don't fancy burning through these 30a fuses in bulk !

Certainly seems like it...use a good ELECTRICAL CLEANER not WD40...

HAHA, i'm not one of these WD40 people, i dig it for cleaning metal (as in spare wheel well once) etc, otherwise it's pretty good for door hinges, but i'm not OTT

I bought electrical cleaner especially (albeit from halfords, still about 4 quid.. )

I pussied out & was going to disconnect the neg lead, was burning my hands on this stupid black bonnet and the clasp that you undo to "extend" the bonnet, i thought.. sod this i'm going to try replacing the fuse again, maybe in this heat it's dried up, lo and behold 30a fuse.. click, no bang! works fine.

I had a torch down there & it doesn't look bad so I'll just clean it up a little without the seat out. It wasn't a big spill but L322's are a bit like women i noticed. one little thing and they start screaming at you and shutting / locking everything down.

I had the drama this morning taking fuse 60 (30a) to use for the drivers seat electrics, (don't ask) i thought "rear windows, i can do without them" , boot won't unlock, oops central locking also uses fuse 60... intricate web that fuse box.

Needless to say, i'm a few packets of fuses down & the whole fusebox is back to "factory" spec.

Given the fact that major engine & gearbox service happened recently (aswell as water pump and rad new'ing) and only advisory on last MOT was tyres (which i frequently remind everyone of the £1,000 i was ass-raped out of, partly by choice) with luck, she'll be fine & someone else can enjoy

Thanks for your help as always, i do wonder if you get any work done in that office of yours :p

Sad to see this one goes, it's truly special. we've shared countless drama's & emotions together. I've got an L405 Lined up in Aus (obviously it's a lease), but.. with that said, the new discovery (with some heavy off-road tyres & some bash-proof gear) might very well have my name on it. not ready to be an RRS ponse yet.

Massive comment over/
