Driving along happily the other day and she overheated and blew a head gasket.
She has just had a new viscous fan fitted, by me, and AC recharged so this was on for first time this year.

She overheated as the electric fans did not come on and the viscous fan was not good enough to cool.
Heads have now been skimmed and refitted. She will sit for an hour and be rock steady temperature wise.
Go for aride and she starts to overheat.....no fans coming on.
According to my garage, not a RR dealer, the problem is in the kit under the seat??? Looks like a big mother board to me with relays and transisitors etc.
Garage seems to think that this bit of kit needs replacing...is this the case or can live be a little less expensisve?
Do electric fans come on only when AC is on or as and when needed to help viscous fan?

No didn't check water pump or thermostate.
No noise from pump abd feeling pipes the thermostate seems to be working.
Could also be radiator I guess but I just need an answer on when the fans come on. Are they only for AC or for additional cooling as well?
If only for AC then something more is wrong with cooling system.

id have thought if the viscous fan isnt cooling enuff theres a problem elsewhere the lecky fans for ac shudnt have to help cool the engine, my ac pump has been removed and i get no problems with cooling

As mentioned, the fans are for the aircon, and they should cut in if the tempreture goes above a certain level to help out the viscous fan, but they are an aid to the cooling in an emergency and cant work miracles. These old girls need everything to be in tip top condition to keep cool. Did you change the water pump or the rad. Its worth doing both of these if you have any doubts about the cooling system. Previous lazy owners and a can of Barrs leak can destroy the efficiency of the cooling system.
