Egr triggering engine mang system lamp

Hi Guys
I need help with EGR on my 08 Puma
Engine is fords 2.4TDi
I have replaced EGR twice in 3 years with less than 20k Klm intervals and the warning lamp is on again
The diagnostics advise EGR emissions are the issue
Surely the interval must be greater
No performance issues with the engine
Could something else be triggering the warning system
Should a fuel additive be used to assist burning carbon deposits
