EGR removal or Blank?

Hi guys. Been doing a bit of research on EGR removal/blanking on a defender 300tdi. I am keen on removing the EGR completely and fitting a new intercooler hose but with the recent MOT changes if I had an MOT the tester would obviously notice it has been removed thus resulting in a fail?

I have thought about blanking it so it’s less obvious to the tester but is it really more beneficial to remove the valve completely compared to blanking? (Have heard with all the pipes and EGR removed and a new intercooler pipe the engine can receive more unobstructed airflow?)

Yer can't remove them or disable them or yer fail an mot. But some disable them with a blanking kit which is not always easy ter see.

Mine is very obviously removed. It’s not covered etc. I had my MOT done at a Land Rover garage in January I think and while I was in reception there was someone there having theirs removed.

I was worried as I’d have to pay to have it put back on. But it passed fine, well failed on a dodgy headlight switch but I was happy with that after the failures it had the previous year when I bought it. So I guess you can take the risk, but it seems to be the norm I think with our engines. I’d be interested to see if many people have actually failed for it?

Do you have any local Land Rover garages? Call them up and ask for advice if you are worried. If you ask if they will remove it ask about the MOT too.

I have a 1989 90 with a 300tdi so it’s hardly something that would roll out of an MOT check without a good once over, i could hear the engine running a lot while I waited.

I doubt if anyone has ever failed a 300tdi for egr removal.
The removal plates look more the norm than than the actual egr's.

If the ministry inspector happens to be at the garage... a vehicle with its erg removed will definitely fail an mot.
