Fellow LandyZoners, this is why we throw away our EGRs.

quote

By feeding the lower oxygen exhaust gas into the intake, diesel EGR systems lower combustion temperature, reducing emissions of nitrous oxides.
This makes combustion less efficient, compromising economy and power.

Diesel EGR also increases soot production, though this was mitigated in the US by the simultaneous introduction of diesel particulate filters.[6]

EGR systems can also add abrasive contaminants and increase engine oil acidity, which in turn can reduce engine longevity.[7]

Though engine manufacturers have refused to release details of the effect of EGR on fuel economy, the EPA regulations of 2002 that led to the introduction of cooled EGR were associated with a 3% drop in engine efficiency, bucking a trend of a .5% a year increase

Every diesel I've had, I've always removed them. Stupid idea and a waste of time.

You wouldn't live very long if you only had your own fart to breathe ;)

EGRs are completely useless,as are DPFs , DPFs introduce a blockage into the exhaust, in conjuction with an EGR makes the engine far more inefficiant that it should be. i hate EGRs and DPFs, and my lil corsa has both ! grrrrr if it wasnt for my warrenty i wouldve removed it the day i got it, although im thinking that with out them fitted i wouldnt need a warrenty

its not the problems people remove rthe EGRs for its the gains lol.

and have you any idea how much effort it is to remove a DPF and EGR on common rail engines, they need remapping after removal lol, a great idea and an idea i had myself once lol

EGRs and DPFs are used for one reason, to meet the ever stringent emmisions regs :( Without them the vehicles wouldnt even exist.

That's the theory,

BUT, the vehicle makers refuse to release their official test figures.

That's because they don't want us to know what they are hiding.

The plain fact is that an EGR makes fuel consumption WORSE, in many vehicles by as much as 10% worse. That means up to 10% MORE CO2 emission. In a TD5 Disco like mine, removing the EGR saves me nearly TWO GALLONS of diesel per tankful!

Oxides of nitrogen are not a problem in any place other than the likes of Los Angeles or San Francisco, London or Tokyo, and daft places like those. I will not be driving my Disco in these cities. Everywhere else, oxides of nitrogen are GOOD. They mix with rainwater and fertilise the ground, so everything grows bigger and faster.

Farmers spend a lot of cash speading nitrogen fertilisers on the ground.
NOx emissions from vehicles has the same effect.

lol, i been arguing this for years, and i really cannot fathom why manufacturers bother to fit em. they really make no damn sense.

i remmeber when DPFs came out i researched them and found they have no affect on emissions at all, they only remove black soot, which i suppose makes exhaust fumes prettyer.

i really wanna remove them but i wanna build a landy and then sell my car, so i want resale to be as high as possible, and if i build be fore warrenty ends id like to sell it with that in tact too
