Ill try and keep this simple....should the 'male' fittings for the vacuum hoses ON the egr valve be blocked ? Mine are(Seems like black sillicone).Ive had a look about and cant find any reference to it anywhere or make it out on any pictures. Ta!

Sounds like someone's done a bodge-it 'n scarper EGR delete .....

Thats what im thinking. The inside of the valve is too clean to be working compared to intake at bottom. Question is can i simply pick it out or will pushing some (unintentially) cause a problem. Getting a lot of black smoke from exhaust so i thought id just take a look. Expected to see a lot of gunk in there.fairly clean on inside

I would clean it out and try it .. or do the egr delete properly ..

A small amount of almost anything won't be as bad in there as lumps of carbon ... it's only recirculating exhaust gases

unless its already has a blanking plate ..not to sure why they used silicon to plug the holes as its just as easy to disconnect the electronic solenoids mine are long gone i wish i saved them for a day like this
not many people understand the EGR system there is a EGR valve seat as well as butterfly valve in the air intake some think this a throttle plate
