Following on from AndyP38's thread..Here ..http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/e-s-compressor-pump-poll-105654.html

Both Spud & myself posted that our EAS pumps "came on" when we pressed the brakes............

I sat & had a reet long think about this & went off to scour RAVE......

My conclusion is..............................

SUPPOSE (just fer a minute here) that IT ISN'T the EAS pump we hear kick in suppose its the ABS pump instead..??????

That would account for the "Noise" we hear when depressing the brake pedal & it stopping when we "Lift Off".....

Suppose it IS the ABS pump, we hear a "Noise" & we all jump to the obvious conclusion is the EAS pump running.....

If it IS the ABS pump that raises the question as to WHY ITS RUNNING & IS IT faulty......

This from Rangerovers.net ....abs

Pay particular attention to the "diagnostics" section in there!!!!

EDIT*****

Dug out some more info from the states, seemingly (According to the LR forums over there) it is a KNOWN FAULT that if yer ABS pump runs "Longer" or "Kicks in" during "Normal " braking proceedures it is an accumilator fault i.e. the nitrogen has fallen below the "recomended" pressure & a new Accumilator is required.

Now that IS interesting I aint NEVER heard that over here on ANY LR/RR forum I have visited ......

Your thoughts please..............................

Its your ABS pump, I have warning lights fitted as standard for all high load electrics and that one comes on even in dry weather, guess the system charges or something.

I aggree Traveller..but .. the accumilator/ system SHOULD (according to RAVE) store enought energy for 20 pedal movements/braking

I doubt it should "Come on" nearly every time we hit the brakes!!!

Yeah it's the abs pump alright! I originally thought this noise was the eas pump but on further investigation it was obvious what it was. I can hear my eas pump only on first startup when it is cold. I have the Dutch seal kit fitted on the eas pump and this seems to have resulted in the slight cold startup noise. The abs noise is much louder and runs for about 20 secs on first startup, then 5 or 10 secs when (for instance) sat at traffic lights. I've read somewhere the abs pump is not serviceable? Mine seems to be getting noisier and I ain't looking foward to the bill for replacement....

No way its the ABS pump on mine. I have a failed mount on my EAS pump and when it kicks in you can hear it. The ABS pump is also audible but is clearly a different cadence. I am not so sure about mine cutting in when I put the foot on the brake but it certainly switches off when I take my foot off the brake.

Not quite, I checked again this afternoon and if the pump is off and I put my foot on the brake the pump does not start. However if the pump is already running and I put my foot the brake (like in traffic) and then remove it - the pump will always stop. It might start again a few seconds later but it always stops when I lift off the brake.
