Wrififer is in Scotland.

The EAS ecu should be labelled air suspension height unit or similar. It has two mounting tags on the underside, just to the rear of the loom connector. Do a search on Ebay for "P38 ECU" and there are a couple listed which will give you and idea of what to look for.

If a P38 owner was local to him (Glenrothes), at least they could swap a couple of units around to see if the problem could be isolated for starters.

I have an old laptop with a serial port but cd drive has packed up. is it feasible to connect the laptop to the vehicle but use the cd on another laptop. Thought I would ask before I buy an eas checker lead/cd on flea bay

I'm sure you can as long as you have wireless on the old one and the sharing set to allow the CD drive on the other laptop to be shared on an ad-hoc network.

Christ! I came over all techy there. :5bconehead:

I use Macs but believe it's fairly simple on Windows.

Just copy the CD to the hard drive, a lot simpler than trying to network two PC's

If the sensor values are not being recognised by the ecu, it will hard fault and do nothing. My experience is that if the car is lifted off the bump stops, say to somewhere near standard height, then the values are more easily read. Usually the system locks up when the car is down on the bump stops, unless I read the faults..which usually show as "Invalid value" and clear it..the diagnostics (Rovacom) will not let me raise the car.
A couple of different laptops have been used without success with the software loaded on both..I take it that the integrity of the connector lead connectons has been checked. I use two laptops with my Rovacomlite, one with a serial port and the other with USB-serial patch lead, both work fine. I run Windows ME on the old Dell Latitude with the serial and XP on the newer Dell Inspiron with the USB.
