Hi,

It's me again.....lol

Thinking ahead.
If I decide to fit a winch to my p38, where would be the best place for the second battery. There is a space between the bulkhead and air compressor box.
It might mean having a shelf welded here.

Has anybody done this and was there any problems?
Does anybody have any recommendation for a good reliable dual battery set up?

Thanks for any help.

Mike.

That might actually finally be an answer to "why ever degrade the suspension?" Space for a new battery!

Have you now disconnected your RF receiver? I have just started my P38 for the first time in a few days, having been starting it every day prior to prevent discharge, and no problems - straight up (well.. a bit slow literally going up but I think the air tank had drained). Basically I think that if your RF receiver was the drainage problem there shouldn't be a need for a 2nd battery.

Hi,

Not yet, I'm doing the Rf receiver this weekend.

Also the dual battery system will be to power a winch when fitted.

Mike.

Sure will, but when you have flattened it winching yourself out of the ****, how do you start the car when it stalls due to no power for the ECU's?

I presume there's a reason why you can't have the engine running during the winching?

No not at all, the engine will be running, but depending on the winch, I doubt the alternator would provide enough power for decent sized winch hauling 2.5 tonnes out of the mud. Of course there are some very light winches. Still safer to have a separate battery. My last Pajero had 2 batteries, a dedicated starter battery and one for the other systems. If you forgot to turn the lights off it would still start the next day no problem.

This is why I have a hand winch :p (Well no, but it's a reason for one)

when winching you don't rely solely on the winch. Engine will be running cos you'll be using 1st gear to assist.

mike.

Assuming that your winching your self out, and have drive. and if you have drive that the wheels have some form of traction??

If your winching a stuck vehicle you'll be in neutral.
If you've lost drive you'll be in neutral
If you've got no traction been in gear isn't going to help.

Thanks guys in all cases you are right.
If winching dead weight however using a divert the pulling power of your winch can be greatly increased though slower operation.
