Hi All,

Just bagged a recon mil front axle, Its not like one I have seem before, and i was wondering if anyone could help...

Its looks as if its a rover type of diff but the long side of axle has a big old lenght of u shaped channel plate welded right a long its lengh to add like a box section (I guessing) to add strengh...

Secondly I measured drum OD (outside diameter) and it comes up at just under 12"!!!!!!

checked this by measuring circumference and converting and sure enough just under 12".....

....(not that I have ANY experiance of measuring things over size ;))....

Anyway just wondering if some one can measure a 11" drum OD and tell me if it is 12"

...I will get a photo sorted, but its burried under a pile of parts right now...!!!

Next question, Its going on a SWB and I remember someone saying that the master cylinder for a LWB is different to a SWB, can anyone shed some truth on this?

Thanks

MX

On the edge of my knowledge, but I seem to recall there is a mil spec axle that was beefed up with a channel section, or it may be an axle that someone has beefed up.
The 1 tone forward control has beefier brakes, I wonder if thats what you have, if its a sally diff front axle its worth a few bob.
Didnt the santana have diffo spec axles and stuff?

Ahh the good doctor!

Looks like rover diff... Still pretty pleased, as it even has leather gaters on it!

Lwb 6 cyl has 11'' twin leading front drums and 3'' wide shoes and they're awesome. Had a bit of a story and much confusion changing the master cylinder as I couldn't get my hands on an original 6 cyl type and ended up using a late series3 one which has a larger dia than earlier ones......fitted on the same as std mount but had to make up another push rod from a ht bolt......wish I could be more specific but like I said it at got a little confusing:confused:

Often called one ton brakes, as they were fitted to the series 3 109 with a that carring capacity
