I've noticed the driver's door opens too far and has been marking the door against the trailing edge of the wing.
On inspection it would seem that the tabs that limit the extent to which the door can open (other than check strap) have been forced back splitting the steel where the hinge pin passes through it.
Is this a common issue?
Can't seem to find any second hand driver's side hinges on ebay.

The front door check strap mount on the A pillars cracks on earlier D2s and can allow more opening than intended - although on ours it's not so far that the door hits the wing. I don't think the hinge is the stop. Later cars have a reinforced check strap mounting on the A pillar I think. Ours needs welding up when I can get round to it.

If it really is a hinge problem, you're unlikely to find them advertised. There's not enough demand for breakers to be bothered. The hinges are usually removed with the doors & then kept with them until the breaker decides the doors are taking too much space.
When I was after rear door hinges I had to contact a few breakers & ask them if they'd contact me if they got any good ones they were willing to sell separately to the doors. After a few months, 1 breaker came back to me to say he'd got a pair ( even in the right colour !).

I'll have to bend the stops back and weld if I can't find hinges.
When I get the door card off I'll look at the check strap but its definitely there and doing something.

So your check strap isn't connected as that is the item that should limit the door opening?
No it definitely is and its stopping the door but not quite soon enough.
It may be strained but the hinge tabs that also stop the door are definitely bent and have opened up the top hinge hole where the pin goes through.

Sorted the hinges today.
The hinges had split and opened up on each of the bottom pins. I had to knock back into position and weld up, fettle and reinstall.
Also the check strap would appear to have bent the the door steel where it fixes onto the door.
Took off, knocked door back to shape and the check strap bracket.
Put all back together and everything is A1.
