Ok - I have a 1997 V8 4.00 GEMS (Disco I 97 NAS) and I used all the spec material, including a Land Rover original part cork gasket, to fix my oil-sump leak; it worked for about a year, maybe less, and now the leak is back with a vengeance. Now, I have heard that some owners simply bin the gasket and Hylomar the entire operation and that works but I am hesitant - any ideas? Suggestions? etc.? Or, should I just relax and resign myself to the fact that the oil-sump leak is, in fact, a good thing and was designed by Solihul engineers as a sort of permanent rust proofing for the underside of the vehicle?

The 97 4.6 GEMS in my P38 didn't have a gasket.
When I did the sump I got the black silicone stuff from Eurocarparts and that seemed to seal it.
Mind you didn't run it for long as I got rid shortly thereafter

Gasket was listed on their site but it turned out to be too small and one bolt hole short
