Door Weather Shield Sticky Stuff

Been doing some work inside my D2 doors recently, and I was wondering if you can buy the black sticky stuff that holds the plastic weather shield to the doors, or is there a generic substitute that is just as good?

I don’t have a D2, so I don’t know the specific job you’re referring to, but my go-to sticky stuff is Tiger Seal, which I’ve used to stick the rubber door seals back onto the 110’s door. Sticks like sh*t to a blanket.

If I have to remove the plastic door skin under the door cards I usually just tape them back on with duct tape or similar.
By the time a motor get to double figures in years most of the plastic has disappeared due to the amount of times the window regulator or door looks break.
I've made new plastic sheets up in the past and again just used tape

Its some sort of tacky substance that allows the plastic shield to be pulled away from the door, but allows it to be stuck back down afterwards. I'm sure over time it becomes less sticky, but it seems quite good at doing it's job.

Don’t use the Tiger Seal stuff then! Hope you find what you’re looking for, sounds interesting.

Dum Dum used to be ideal for this sort of job, sadly no longer made.
There is a good substitute and I've brought some but forget where from. I will go find out for you.

I can't do links and I've just tried searching for it on eBay but it wasn't easy to find. I found it under their other items for sale.

Flossie's found it, but search ebay for 'Butyl rubber sealant strip' gives a lot of hits - & quite a bit cheaper too.
It's basically very sticky plasticine & I usually have a roll knocking about as missing/damaged weather sheets are a common & puzzling source of water ingress. The water that gets past the waist seals runs down the glass & drips off the bottom. The weather sheet keeps it inside the door & it eventually exits via the drain holes in the bottom of the door. If missing the water can drip onto the back of the door card & then drips off inside the car

It's messy stuff, you'll get it everywhere and be disappointed.
The proper stuff ,on a roll, you can peel it off and roll it up into a ball with your fingers, reposition it and reuse it, no mess and it's forgiving.
If your careful and don't expect to visit the door inards again, then you'll (probably) be ok.
If you don't want to splash out on the Dum Dum copy stuff on the roll then flexible frame sealent would be better than the stuff you are thinking of getting.
Flexible frame sealent is available from most DIY places and is used to seal between door/window frames and brickwork.

You'll find the stuff on the roll is much easier & cleaner to use. It's firm so doesn't squish all over the place & is instant grab so you don't need to hold it in place. Just press it on round the aperture, peel off the backing & press the plastic sheet on
I've tried silicone & mastic out of a tube like the one you've shown & they're good for panel joint sealing but a PITA for weather sheet.

LINKY Aye, use the tape. I've still got most of my roll left from doing my doors. Not expensive though.
