MY2000 Vogue. New to me, and just looking for advice on a couple of minor issues.

When I turn the radio/CD player on, there is a noise coming from the speaker in the passenger door - the small one in the triangular panel in front of the window glass. It's a regular crackle, a bit like a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle wheel. It gets louder with the signal. For example, on a talk radio programme, it is fairly quiet when there is silence in the speaking, and then gets louder as people talk. It's the same on radio and when playing a CD, so I assume it is a problem in the audio system rather than the radio or CD components. It's a completely new one on me, never had this before. Can anyone help with what the cause is, and if I can cure it?

If not, I am quite happy to disconnect that speaker for the time being. Can anyone advise how to get the plastic trim off without breaking it? It's like a triangular plastic moulding and I can get a finger behind it on the front edge, but no further. I'm afraid I will snap something. Or is there an easier way to disconnect it?

Thanks all.

Sounds like a buggered tweater?
They crackle and hiss, the lower bass speaker fart and grind if they're buggered..
Could have had some abuse over the years...

It’s not a crackle or hiss, but a regular tapping/flapping noise. Think of an old-fashioned football rattle, like a whirring, but with a much sharper tone like a playing card. The frequency doesn’t change with the volume of sound from the radio or CD, but the volume does.

Any idea how I get the plastic cover off? One side is easy, but after that it is solid. There’s obviously some kind of trick, but I can’t see it.

Aha!

"Replacing the tweeter cover, requires the lower tab on the tweeter cover to be inserted behind the door card, and then the cover to be pushed home against the door."

There's a tab, and now I know where it is. Excellent, thanks for the link to this.

Hmm, not as simple as I had hoped. I disconnected the LH door tweeter, only to find that the clicking/rattling noise is coming from the door speaker and the rear door speaker as well. It appears to be a fault in the LH audio channel, as I can eliminate it by setting the balance completely to the right side. Might need a specialist, as I really don’t have a clue.

Left hand side of boot behind panel, should be amp, subwoofer and cd unit all in there, if its the amp if I remember right there is not a lot you can do with them, a few on here have been messing about with them trying to work out some fixes.
