I’ve had all the doors and lock mechanisms of the defender and 2 of the doors have been replaced. I have refit then and can’t get any of them to close nicely, they either stick out by 5-10 mm or you can see day light round them. The bottom has a massive gap where you can see day light and you really need to slam them to get them to close and latch.

I have tried adjusting hinges and moving the striker plate.

Wondering if there is any set procedure to set the doors up. Can’t see any videos on YouTube.

Thanks

You said the doors are replaced. Where they true or are they bowed outwards. Sometimes you need to manipulate and the door frame seals might need resetting if old replacing. Doors need some heat being aluminium or if your american Allooneemeeum to manipulate as you can fracture weld joints. Withe door seal they might need Dum Dum to pad out the corners.

The doors look to be good. No signs they are bend so wouldn’t have thought they would be. The seals arnt brand new but are in good condition so I regifted them.

Is there a specific way to set the hinges and the striker plate?

Door first then striker plate.
There is a video of the last Defender coming off the prodution line with a host of posh types about and in the background is a worker giving it a final check. The door in not quite right so he puts his knee against it and gives heave at the top, sorted.:D

There is a video on YouTube about door gaps and seals. The best advice I have ever had was “remove the seal to set the door gap”. I have just done my 4 doors, and all bar one were fine like this. One door needed a little extra on the striker to get a decent seal.

I worked with an ex Solihull Defender line fit chappy, his weapon of choice was a length of 4x2 for ‘fine tuning’ the doors - as tottot mentions above, a combination of leverage and trial and error.

My method was all seals off, set the doors to level on roof line by tweaking the hinges, bend the doors in/out so they sit true (ish) seals on, adjust the striker, sorted.
