Ok, so I'm starting the bodywork phase of my 90 build finally and starting with doors, so I have three options:

1. New complete doors- I am struggling to find new take off ones for normal money, Keith Gott just quoted me £1680 for a pair.

2. Build TDCi doors- I would like TDCi doors as they are all stamped out of one piece of steel, but I'm not sure how many parts from the current doors are transferable to the new style, window mech, door cards etc.

3. Build old style doors using galvanised frames- Lets me use some parts from the old doors, but most need replacing anyway

To be honest I would like TDCi doors, but I am not sure where to get all of the parts to build them. What do people think?

Ive seen some used tdci doors being sold on ebay... prior to seeing them covered in rust, i was under the impression that tdci were the way to go.

After seeing how some of them end up, when im monnied up, ill buy a set of the galvanised ones from splandrover - at least then you can use your old cards / internals etc.

Yeah, if I build some they are coming from SP. The problem is that there isn't really anything that can be saved from the old doors, I think even the glass is too scratched.

I didn't realise that the tdci doors rust, though SP do galvanised tdci style ones too

I bought two cheap Britpart doors. Had the frames shot blasted and plastic coated then sprayed inside with Dinitrol (lots of it). Bonded the skins back on. Wish I'd gone galvanised frames, but that was two and a half years ago and it never occurred to me back then. The way they are should last a long time though.

I've started making a list of stuff I need to make complete TDCi doors from scratch, but have got stuck trying to find the winder mech and locking stuff. Reckon I have the door cards sorted and handles and stuff

Are your winder mechanisms not working? It's going to cost a canny bit to replace all of the furniture.
It was a farm vehicle, so:
Door cards are cracked
Most of the lock mechanism is missing from the drivers door inc barrels
Lock guides cracked or missing
Interior handles missing screw covers
Outside handles are weathered badly
The passenger window goes down on it's own
The internal plate on the drivers door is sheered in half
The door glass is very scratched
Weather trim at the top is missing

So...no there isn't that much that can be salvaged! Plus I kind of want to fit electric windows and proper central locking.

Cheers greyhair, I'll give them a ring

No, not a lot to be going on with there.

Ali door and Tcdi door cards DO not swap over ! You can fit them with screws but the internal door profile is different. Its not just doors that have shot up in value all Take/off used parts are climbing in price ! I was asked £550-900 for a TD5 tub and told by the vendor that it was better to buy off him as if I bought private it could be a stolen item, My reply was if he pushed up the prices of used parts he is stoking the stolen market

Wow. Keith Gott told me that this set of doors that they have in are the last ones that they will be getting ever.

I have the parts numbers for most parts of the TDCi doors now, but feel it may be cheaper to go for the galv normal ones, everyone has parts for those. I just like the idea of steel ones as they may not end up as smushed as the current ones

You're aware that you can get td5/300 etc. ones in both aluminum skin, and steel?

Indeed, im not even sure that splandrover does the aluminium ones any more, but ive not checked their site recently.
