Hi All

This is my first posting here. I have owned a '94 LSE "Softdash" for the past 4 years. As an English ex-pat living in the Netherlands I guessed I should also be on a European forum as I have been mainly residing on the rr.net forum.

At the end of last year I started getting problems with my EAS. My "specialist" could not even manage to mount 4 new height sensors correctly so I decided I needed to do it all myself. At the same time a couple of the guys from rr.net published a DIY EAS program to reset the faults in the EAS of a P38a. Since the EAS is almost identical I decided that it must be possible to connect this software to the Classic. After some experimentation and searching for the correct connectors I was able to make a cable that connects this software to the diagnostics connector under the RH seat. As I have a background in programming I also decided to continue to develop the software for PDA's/phones running Windows Mobile 2002/2003. This software and the instructions are all available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/easunlock. This software is freeware so it is free but there is of course no guarantee.

Since the initial "unlock" software there has been a speedy development. The software is now able to Read Faults, Clear Faults, Calibrate, Monitor current heights and very soon de-pressurise the whole system. There is even a tiny hardware device called a Buddy Box which when you plug it in automatically resets the EAS.

I am posting this message because I want as many people as possible to be able to take advantage of these new possibilities. The EAS is not that complex and now with the help of these tools and the possibility to re-condition the valve block is is perfectly possible to maintain your EAS yourself.

I've got a 93 RR Vogue LSE Classic with the EAS fault lights on. So I was interested in your posting. You mention you've got a 94 RR, do you know or think the software would work with my model?

If so, looking through the "RangeRover_EASunlock_Win32_03-19-08.zip" PDF files I was a little unclear about the cable to use. The web site "http://www.rswsolutions.com/index.htm" mentioned seemed only to talk about P38s.

Hi Neil

Yes all the software will work on any Classic model with EAS and all P38a's. The only difference is the cable required.

If you download the EASDiag package from sourceforge you will find a readme which explains how to make the cable for the Classic. For people who can't manage it I am prepared to make cables. There is a lot of extra background information on rangerovers.net/forum under the Diagnostics Systems forum.

Hello Rishi,

I started to put the cable together and realised I didn't know what the pin numbers are for the C875 connector (no numbers on the connector). I'm building a cable for PC serial connection. From the pictures on RangeRover.Net I could work out blue wire was pin 1 and red wire was pin 4, but not the clear and yellow wires; they must be pins 3 and 5, but which is which?

I also noticed that the connector on my 93 RR only has 3 wires with a fourth going around as a sort of loop back into a female C875 connector. If I use the pictures from RangeRover.net as a guide, my RR has corresponding wires for blue, red and yellow, but not clear. Can you describe you RR's pin layout or do you know if the cable will still work with my RR?

I can't find any reference to C875. The Classic diagnostics connector is C365. If you search in the Rave Electrical Manual for C365 you will find the pinout.
You are correct about the loopback cable. When you join the 2 together for normal operation the earth circuit for the ECU is completed.

...I'll take a look through the RAVE manuals. The C875 is the 5 pin connector mentioned in the "PPC_EASdiag_ReadMe.doc" file for the classic cable. I have one and it is the same connector as that in the RR.

I have just taken a look in the doc. I can see the confussion. C 875 is a type number of the generic plug. It is unfortunate that it looks like a Range Rover plug number as used in Rave.

Hello,

I've been able to make a PC cable (from instructions in "RangeRover_EasDiag_PPC_02-20-08.zip") and to have a go with "Win_EASfaults.exe". I think it partially worked! I've attached some files showing the results.

The ZIP file has a Word document in showing the "Win_EASfaults.exe" window and all the faults that were recorded. It looks like everything that could be wrong, is wrong with the EAS. The Tx and Rx windows suggest the cable is correct; although FD does turn up in the Rx window. Can anyone help interpret these readings?

I'm a little worried about the diagnostic plug too. The cable I've made has four wires, but the plug on the RR has only three (see attachments "pin side.jpg" and "wire side.jpg"). Does anyone know if the 4 wire cable and EAS software will work with the 3 wire RR plug?

The reason I'm having a go, is because the dashboard lights come on all the time (suggesting an EAS fault) when the engine is started. The EAS sets itself into standard height when the engine starts and when being driven.

The RR is a 93 Vogue LSE.

Hello

The three wire diagnostic plug issue can be forgotten. My fault. There are two plugs under the right hand seat, both the same; EAS and 14CUX. I've now located the correct EAS plug (not white, but black just like the handbook says it is).

Still doesn't work; the relay clicks when I "initialise", but no RX output apart from the single "PP". There are no faults displayed when the "read faults" button is clicked (see attachment). TX entries 79 - 86 are the output when the "read faults" button is clicked, if it helps. Could the problem be the cable? Can anyone help out?

Double checked my cable and tried again. The worry is I can't really check that the transistor is working!

I basically tried different comm ports (comm1 seems to be the one) and gave it a number of goes and some time. Apart from two different readings I always got the results described in my last posting. The different ones (attached) if true, would be perfect. Can anyone help to say if they are correct?

I suppose the next stop is to manually check the EAS's FL valve and other components and perhaps purchase one of Rishi's cables. Rishi could you let me know if you still offer a classic cable and how much it would be? I live in the UK. I can imagine mine is 'flakey' at best.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

If you hear the relay clicking when you hit Initialise you have got that part (the transistor/resistor) of the cable correct. Since there is nothing recieved it looks like you have simply swapped the TX and RX wire arround. Try switching them.

I swapped around diagnostic pins 1 and 4 - are those the correct ones? No change and I've lost the relay click on initialise! I'll make up a patch panel so I can more easily swap wires.

I did notice in the instructions in "RangeRover_EasDiag_PPC_02-20-08.zip" that the diagnostic pins 1 and 4 on the laptop cable are different to those for the Pocket PC. Also on the DB 9 connector, pins 7 and 8 are used differently. Are those differences correct?

Hello Rishi

I built the batch panel and have swapped diagnostic connector pins 1 and 4 around. Regardless of which way round they are, I get the same result as that shown in zip file, in post 11. The relay does click on Initialise, so yesterday I may have missed it or my initial wiring was wrong.

However, I did notice that I get the same results with the ignition off; including a click from the relay. Greatful for any help.

I'm helping my father with the EAS on his RRC -94, we can run the suspension manually so the compressor and valves are workning but the ECU are locked so i'm planning to give EASunlock software a go.

I'm using a Laptop and serial cable but i have a few questions.

The cable have 4 leads in the manual but the connector on the classic only have 3?! where shall the last one go?

Does anyone have a more detailed description on how to connect the cable to the car.

Anything else i shall think/be aware of?

grateful for any help!

Have a read of post 11 above. I confused the 14CUX's diagnostic connector for the EAS's. The EAS's was buried deep under the seat while the 14CUX's was right at the back and easy to get to.

Thanks Neil... but still a bit confused

So i shall not use the C365 connector as described, or have i just got them mixed up (the C365 only have 3 pins according to RAVE)?
Do the EAS connector have different a number in RAVE then?
In the manual for the cable on sourceforge only 3 pins are described...
