Disengaged ignition problem..can anyone help?

Hi, I am new to this forum, so bear with me, I may have posted this in the wrong location....!

I have a Landrover Td5 (2000 year) and recently the dash board light and beeping started, indicating that one of the doors was left open. I checked and rechecked and sprayed all the door connections with WD40, but the light and the beeping continued. Today, I am unable to turn the ignition over. As I turn the key over, all the lights on the dashboard come on (as usual), I then press the imobiliser button on my keyfob which turns off the red light for the immobiliser (also as usual), and then as I continue to turn the key.....nothing happens. It is as if some electrical fault is stopping my engine from even attempting to turn over and start.

Can anyone give me any pointers? I am pretty stumped and also gutted to have to beg a lift to work this morning! lol

I have already removed the battery connections, and even tried to get my alarm to go off in the hope that this would reset everything.

Hoping for some good advice to get my baby back on the road ASAP!

The door open light could be due to a bad earth/connection on one of the door switch pins (the little plungers that push in when the doors are shut).

It sounds like you either have a flat battery on your vehicle of a dodgy connection to the starter motor/starter motor fault.

First measure the voltage of the battery to make sure it is above the 12.5 volts needed to start your vehicle. Do the dash lights dim out when you turn the key to the crank position? If so it backs up the fault being flat battery.

If the dash lights don't dim it would help signify that it is a dodgy starter connection or goosed starter motor. Try wiggling the small lead on the starter solenoid and then have another go at starting it on the key.

Although I can't quite believe it would be my battery as it was a new battery and has always been working fine, never a hiccup starting even on the coldest of mornings. It seems more like the immobiliser is preventing the key from turning further to start the engine....if that makes sense (sorry, for the bad explaination, i am girl!).

The small connector to the starter motor should show as being an earth. When the key is turned to the 'crank' position it should turn live. A simple test of that wire would help establish where the fault lies. Most vehicles suffer from dirty/corroded starter connections. A simple wiggle of the wire can often cure this.
